ASD NYI Camp Trek 6-19 January 2013

We are excited as a family to be heading to the Sydney area for me to speak at the Australia Southern District youth camp this week.  We leave this morning on our first Aussie road trip!  Wahoo!

This is our route about 1000km one way.  We’ll stay in Maitland, NSW tonite and have a little less than two hour drive to the camp tomorrow.

Here’s the camp ground:  http://crosslands.adventist.org.au

Our friends Richard and Judy Giesken traded vehicles with us so we’d have a little more cabin space on the trek south!  Cheers!  (Richard and Judy are originally from South Africa. He is an NTC prof and co-pastors Redlands Naz where we worship)
Thanks for all your Christ-centered prayers along the missioning journey…I’ll be trying to post pix this week of the adventure as internet coverage allows…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

TravelWaders using the shops Travelators on Aussie Boxing Day

Christmas day wading at the Palm Beach on the Queensland Gold Coast

Opening Christmas presents from the States at John and Vicki Moore’s on Mt. Tamborine

Maccas with an Aussie twist

Little friend we met on a Mt. Tamborine rainforest trek…I believe it’s a whip snake?

Hanging out with Parker on a Mt. Tamborine hike

Marsupial possum in the trees on Mt. Tamborine in the back yard

Braydon giving the $15 Indonesian made bamboo didjeridoo a go…he’s still got it!

First cricket match at the Gabba.  Brisbane Heat vs. Melbourne Stars.  Brisbane won!

The TravelWaders right before a rain forest trek where we made some more new mates…

…Parker walked by this python, Braydon saw it right as he put his foot down next to it, and Debra did the snake dance…what a little beauty!

Leeches attacked frequently on our rain forest treks and after this one we had to dig them out of our socks and shoes after they bore through!

Pray for a 22 passenger bus for NTC to be used through the year and for the Gap Year Kimberley Mission Experience

Debra and Kenny on a brekkie date on Mt. Tamborine and…

a new owl mate who joined us.

Braydon trying something new to eat…squid!

Besides swimming, water fights, air con, fans, and showers to stay cool in the heat and humidity of a Queensland summer you can always fill the tub with water and your favorite toy animals!

Mini golf at the Gold Coast with the fam.  Deb is seeking shielding from the aussie sun after our sun screen failed us at the beach Christmas day.  Parker had best score…

Cane toad on a rain forest trek.  The were introduced to Queensland in1935 to take care of the cane beetle pest but didn’t eat them, multiplied like crazy and are seen as a plague.

Wade mob playing “marco-polo” in the new to us flat we will be moving into after the Sydney trip.

Kenny attacking the bathroom ceiling…

Parker and Braydon cleaning up after I attacked the bathroom ceiling.  Good on’ya boys!

Thumb vs. bunk bead adjustment at the new flat on campus. Thumb 0-Bunk 1. nice.

New huntsman spider mate at the new flat.  Cute little bloke…

Moving into Flat 11 on campus Jan 14-16 when we return from the Sydney youth camp.  We will have an extra common room, more space, and an air con unit to keep cool.   This move is strategic in anticipation of having more room as a family for the long term missioning DownUnder in Christ’s kingdom and living on NTC’s campus.

WDU 23.12.12 - An Aussie Christmas

image

Decorating after arriving at the Moore’s on Mt. Tamborine…only in the 70’s F instead of in the high 80’s or 90’s…feels like winter with a little rain and mist for good measure…

image

image

image

Three visitors in the Moore’s back yard this Christmas…they didn’t bring or leave gifts…

image

image

Sugar cookie frosting in progress…finger licking good! (but doesn’t taste like chicken)

image

The kids love these Christmas crackers, poppers, or bon bons (whatever they are called!)

image

Ready for Christmas…why do we do all this?

The ever green tree reminds of life during the death of winter (Jesus’ death/resurrection), the star on top to guide the way to the manger and true purpose of Christmas, the lights of the heavenly host, the candy canes of Jesus’ sacrifice (red), purity (white), shepherds (crook), and the gifts remind of the wisemen’s journey to Jesus…there I feel better.

image

Another tradition meaningful to us is giving toward a cause each year with personal funds Debra and I would have used on each other…this year we give with our Redlands Naz church to an organisation for a fresh drinking water well in Africa.

image

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
